MANAMA, Bahrain, February 16, 2005. Associates from the Sheraton Bahrain Hotel & Towers joined students and other volunteers at a clean-up campaign on Arad Beach, held on Thursday, the 16th of February. The event, which was organized by the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife in cooperation with the Muharraq Governorate, aimed at cleaning up the coast, as part of events to mark National Environment Day.

The Sheraton associates helped with the collection and removal of paper, plastic and other waste dumped on the beach by residents and visitors using the area. In all, over 240 kgs of waste was collected by all groups and was later taken to a waste dumping site by the Muharraq Municipality.

“This was a great opportunity to do something for Bahrain and our environment – I really felt connected, and enjoyed seeing so many other volunteers helping out – it was a really proud day for us all.” said Othman Ahmed, the Executive Assistant Manager at Sheraton. The Sheraton Bahrain Hotel & Towers, an active participant in community-service events, also provided snacks and refreshments to volunteers at the event.
